What I did on my summer holidays (part 1)

My husband, daughter and I just got back from a week on the Oregon coast. We had a wonderful time, and I couldn’t resist sharing some of my favourite photos from the trip (please ignore the tipping horizons):

Long Beach, WA
Before the fireworks, July 4, Long Beach, Washington

Cannon Beach, OR
Looking down on Cannon Beach from Ecola Park (I think)

near Seal Rock, OR
Wind-blown sand on the beach near Seal Rock, Oregon (we stayed in a cottage near here)

near Seal Rock
One day we walked about 2-3 miles down the beach to these volcanic rocks and tidal pools

star fish
My daughter rescued this star fish, which was buried in the sand, and released it on a tidal pool rock

lighthouse
Yaquina Head lighthouse in the fog (I’ve had a lighthouse story brewing in the back of my mind for a few years, and my inspiration was renewed as I climbed up the 110 steps of the lighthouse tower)

near Seal Rock
My daughter loves the ocean and the sand

Oregon Dunes
Me trying to climb a sand dune south of Florence Oregon (it was higher and steeper than it looks!)

sunset
We were lucky to have at least one evening when the fog cleared enough for us to see the sunset

Beautiful photos. I like the one of you heroically trying to crawl up the sand dune. Reminds me of the Andrew Wyeth painting, Christina I think.

Summer is wonderful. I wish we all lived in France and took l-o-n-g vacations to enjoy it. I’ve always had a secret desire to run away to a seaside town, like Monsieur Hulot, and fiddle away the days.

What beautiful photos of beautiful beaches.

Wow – so similar yet different from the coast of Maine. Would have liked to see the left coast sometime.

If it is said pictures are worth a thousand words, then you must indeed have many memories and story ideas. I liked the pic of D and the footprints in the sand.
Being by the sea, what a treat!

What a beautiful series of photos! I have been to Westport, WA and their beach was beautiful, but these beaches are even more so. I’m sending Shelby over to see your photos, she loves Oregon!

I love the photos of your daughter making footprints in the sand and of your efforts to climb the dunes.
